I had high hopes for 2012 being a most excellent year. So far, I’m not so impressed. 🙁
On Monday, just the second day of this new year, our sweet Mary fell off her bike. She had fallen a couple of times earlier in the day as she was trying some new “moves”. Each of those times only needed a smile and a hug to get her moving again.
The last one, though, was followed by a scream! Rebecca and I heard her scream and went running outside to the driveway. There lay Miss Mary face down on the gravel. She had fallen and smacked her face on a rock.
Her cheek was already rather swollen. Her knees were all skinned up. Her hand hurt from where she tried to stop the fall.
This was my sweet girl that evening…
Pitiful, isn’t it? The eye area is more purple now, the cheek is starting to heal over.
Even with a swollen face and purple eye (not black as Mary asks why is it called a black eye, when it’s purple??!), she has her keen sense of humor about her. Love that girlie! 🙂
We’ve been applying Neosporin and a friend suggested applying Vitamin E Oil, so that’s next. No bike riding for awhile, though she’s asked already… 😉
Nothing happened Tuesday of note.
Wednesday morning, however, brought this:
A phone call from Rebecca telling me that she was not going to school and walking home.
She had a small one vehicle accident on one of the back roads on her way to school. The sun was blinding her and she over-corrected, with the passenger tire slipping off the road. That’s all it took and she struck the side of the hill.
Daddy, our Knight In Shining Armor, came home from work to pull it out and was able to drive it home. It was loaded up on a flat-bed tow truck and is now awaiting a repair estimate given to the insurance company.
It was the first (and I pray LAST!) time I saw my baby girl riding in the back of a police car. She had made it almost home when he stopped to pick her up.
We are awaiting a rental car being available for our use. If I ever consider dropping comp & collision insurance from our policy again, SLAP ME! We would not have saved that much money, which was my reason for considering it and would now just be out a towing fee, a vehicle, and no rental car reimbursement. I am reminded of my Dad’s words to me when I started driving – “Carry GOOD insurance always”. Thanks, Dad!
If this is what 2012 has in store for us, I’m done. Let’s move onto 2013, please. 😉
So, Rebecca is fine, although a little shaken. Mary is fine, although a little bruised. And we are all together in our little home this evening, giving thanks for that fact alone.
Hug your babies tonight!
