Growing up, I had a favorite tv show, Little House on the Prairie. Every Saturday evening, I’d pull up a chair in front of the small black and white tv to watch my show. As an adult, I found the show again and shared it with my children. I believe I enjoyed it as much the second time as I did the first.
Since I’ve watched all of the LHotP episodes, it was time to find a new show to enjoy. I don’t care for suspenseful shows, crime shows, or gory shows. I like shows that have a good storyline, and that are uplifting and encouraging. How happy I was to find Hallmark Channel’s When Calls the Heart show last season!
When Calls the Heart is entertaining while having a great storyline. No gore. No junk. Just a wonderful show to enjoy.
In honor of the premiere, I’m planning a party! I do like to plan parties, and my favorite show returning to the screen was reason enough to plan one! I’ve included some period recipes to enjoy while finding out what is happening in Coal Valley.

Here are some great ideas for foods to serve at your premiere party!
Skillet Apple Fritter Cake– it’s a cake, a pie, and a doughnut all in one!
Pecan Banana Bread– use up those “past their prime” bananas and turn them into a yummy loaf of bread!
For me, nothing says Mom’s kitchen more than blueberry muffins. These streusel-topped blueberry muffins are YUMMY!
Elevate the beloved peach cobbler to new heights by baking it in a cast-iron skillet!
Scones are simple to make but are much more impressive than a traditional biscuit. Flavor it up however you choose!
To round out our party menu, I made rice pudding and tapioca pudding, as well as homemade lemonade.
How fun would it be to host a premiere party and ask your guests to arrive in period costume? This is my most favorite period of American History, so the costumes, hairstyles, manner of speech, etc, all appeal to me. It was a gentler time in so many ways. It’s a time that I gladly travel to, with the help of When Calls the Heart!
I’d love to hear what you would add to our premiere party menu! Have you seen When Calls the Heart? You can also catch up on season one at Hallmark Channel online!

*Disclosure- I was compensated for this post, but my love for When Calls the Heart is real, and all mine! *

I’d love to have or attend a party like that if I could find enough people to participate! It’s my favorite period of history too! I wish we lived closer, we could do the party and watch the show together!
Now, that would be SUPER fun, Beth!!!
