What’s not to love about a holiday all about love?
I have fond memories of school day parties. You remember, back in the day when schools were allowed to throw a shindig for every holiday under the sun. Class lists were sent home, homemade treats were passed out personalized for each student, homeroom moms showed up and celebrated with their kids and fun games.
There have been a lot of positive changed in the past few years and some of those things are still happening. But since I plan to homeschool I don’t have the chance to see if my kids are going to have the privilege of enjoying “party day” at school . . . I get to plan the party! Woot Woot!
Love is at the center of our home, along with laughter and Sonic Happy Hour Drink. I want to take full advantage of an entire day where the whole world celebrates what we already know is the key to life: Love God. Love others.
Here are a few fun things we plan to do during the month of February. Keep in mind, my littles are 2, 3, and 4-years-old but many of these things may be tweaked for older children:
History
Of course, we’re homeschoolers 😉 I think it’s fun to give my kids the history or back story on stuff. Throughout the month of February, I want to weave the history of Valentine’s Day into our every day along with lots of scripture about Love.
Food
One Valentine’s Day we will have red/pink eggs, heart pancakes, and possibly some other fun meal ideas throughout the month or at least on the actual day.
Crafts/Gifts/Surprises
We treat our church family like our “class”. Every time one of my kids has a birthday, Christmas rolls around, or any other randomness like change of season, Super Bowl, or even Valentine’s Day, we take gifts. Don’t get me wrong . . . we’re working on a church planter’s income here. These gifts are homemade with love and sometimes have to be very creative but we try to find any excuse to love on people, neighbors, and church family.
Last year we made goodie bags of gold fish and Reese’s Pieces with printables that said, “You O-FISH-ally Have a PIECE of my Heart”.
A simple surprise we did was take crepe paper and wrap the kids’ doors with it so they could bust through it on Valentine’s Day morning. Not gonna lie . . . they were a little weirded out but then again, they were only 1, 2, and 3 last year.
Another simple gift we made was for their Daddy but would be cute for anyone: a giant hug. We used Christmas wrapping paper {the more generic, wintery, possibly just red, the better} and on the backside traced the child’s arms spread wide open as well as up and over their heads. Then let them decorate them with markers, stickers, etc and I wrote little notes from them around the edges. Roll it up and tie it with a ribbon- ta da!

Activities
This year we are adding something new to our February festivities.
Love Note Station! We will provide mail boxes {Target DOLLAR SPOT!} for each member of the family along with a basket of construction paper, stickers, pins, markers, crayons, heart hole punch, etc. We will encourage our kids to write love notes during the month as we think of them. Fun things like, “I love you and your silly giggle!” Or “I’m super excited you’re my brother! We will be helping pen these for the littles but encouraging them to share their loving thoughts as often as they’d like.
These mailboxes will also be a fun place for my husband and I to drop words of encouragement, blessing, and even prayers we have for each child. I’m thinking I will also be placing notes about random adventures we will go on during the month {ie Snack Date to Sonic (of course), late night Red Box Valentine’s Day themed family movie, making & delivering “Neighbor Treats”}!
I think a photo booth may be in order or other fun things I’ve pinned on Pinterest.
I challenge you to have fun this month thinking of SIMPLE yet memorable ways to love on your family as well as love on those around you!
