On Forgetting The Easy One:
Bella Lucille is my oldest child at four-years-old. She is a sweet-spirited, creative, little unicorn lover, and she gets ignored. It’s true. Bella is easy, and she has two brothers that demand my attention almost constantly, so it’s easy for me to forget about her. She will wait and wait and wait for me to give her what she has been waiting for. And I forget, a lot.
I’m not making excuses for myself. I know that I am Bella’s mommy and I am called to serve, love, raise, and nurture her. The thing is, I don’t mean to put her last, it just happens in our home. It’s loud and full of boys and demands that fall on my shoulders. Anyone quieter than a screeching baby or a toddler banging on pots and pans is easy to overlook. I talked to my husband about this problem and he was just as helpless as I am. I went to the Lord the next day to pray about it {after much time away from Him}, and as usual, He met me where I was and brought peace and gentle conviction, along with grace and wisdom. He brought to mind a saddening truth, a comparison.
“Bella sitting with an empty sippy cup this morning, waiting an hour for her promised cup of chocolate milk is like Me, sitting at the edge of your bed, waiting for you to come in to Me and spend time in My presence.”
Ouch.
But how true! I knew I needed to make some changes in how I spend my days and organize my time. I needed to start being purposeful in reaching for my daughter’s heart and in resting in God’s. And He reminded me that if I am spending my days in His presence, talking with Him as I go about my days, He will nudge me, direct my eyes to Bella when she needs me. He’s on my side in this. He wants to help me raise my children and nurture them. I am not alone. I don’t have to stress, worry, and fret. I just have to seek Him and follow His gentle leading. He never forgets about me, as small as I am in the grand scheme of this busy world. He will help me in not forgetting about my easy one, my precious Bella. What a relief 🙂

Allie, I needed this post. I am not young, nor do I have children at home but I tend to forget to spend time with God. I will save this and reread it when needed. Thanks and I love your blog.
