It’s back to school time! Planning our homeschool year is always a source of fun and excitement. We pull out the curriculum that we have on hand and begin to figure out our shopping list.

Back to school season is in full swing! While we are still on our break here, the aisles of the local stores are filled with school supply goodness. I admit that I have a certain weakness for school supplies, office supplies, planners, and accessories. I have done well to limit my purchases, but still, they call to me. 😉
One school supply necessity this year was a new printer. In our homeschool, we tend to print a ton of papers. Whether it’s a test that has to be scanned and printed or an online worksheet, or planning sheets a blogger is sharing, our printer gets quite a workout.
We needed to replace our HP printer that had been a workhorse for years and years. It needed to be replaced because it’s so old that there are no new drivers being released for it and it wouldn’t work with the latest Windows update. Honestly, I put off updating my computer in order to keep my printer. I like that printer that much.
But, my techy-minded son said it was time to update. To prepare for this update, I headed to Walmart to pick out a new printer. The only models I would consider were HP. I was sold by this new one. It comes in my favorite color (and two others, but this blue is super cute!) I chose Dragonfly Blue. You can also choose Vibrant Red or Sporty Purple. It’s a scanner and printer in one, just as I wanted.
Set up was quick and simple when we got it home. It came with “starter packs” of ink. I’m still working with those packs, many prints later. That’s one of my favorite features of HP printers- affordable, high-quality printing!
An added bonus for me was a smaller footprint than my previous printer. This gives me a bit more precious desk space.
AND! I can easily print from my phone. My husband can print from his tablet. No more having to send all print jobs to my computer to be printed. He can be in the living room on his tablet and send a print job to the office. This is WONDERFUL! Between all six of us, we have several phones, tablets, and computers. All of us can print from the same printer. Genius!
Homeschool Planning Printables:

Since it’s back to school planning time and I have a new printer, I obviously needed to have my graphic designer, AKA my daughter Natalie, create some new planning sheets. I’m sharing them here with you!
This year marks the beginning of my last child’s high school career. It’s a bit bittersweet for me. We’re about to dive into our 19th year of home education. I can’t believe my baby is a Freshman already! Time does indeed go too quickly!

When I begin planning high school, it helps to have an overview of all four years. This ensures we will meet all of the credits required for graduation. To use this form, begin with checking your state’s credit requirements, then fill in each year with a broad overview of choices to meet those requirements.

Of course, we need supply lists to be sure we are fully stocked. One for the teacher, one for the student.

I usually have trouble remembering which items I’ve ordered and from where. This printable will give me a place to record each purchase to keep track and not order duplicates (not that I’ve ever done that… ahem…)

This year, I want to try a new weekly planning system. Since I’ll have only one student, I think this may be an easier way to plan our week. My plan is to list each subject and my goal for the work to be completed.

My plan for this daily assignment sheet is to use each box to list each subject and the number of pages to be read, pages of lessons, etc. This gives Mary a tangible guide for her tasks each day.

Finally, to hold myself accountable, I am making a list of books I’d like to read each month. To be honest, I’ve never been a huge reader – busts that myth that you have to be a serious reader in order to homeschool your children.
I am finding, however, that I do enjoy reading for information. I don’t really read for pleasure, but to learn something new. To that end, I have many, many books that I’ve been meaning to read, but have not. I hope this new list reminds me! Of course, you can use this list for your student. Make the goal what you choose, be it pages, chapters, or books.

Some of these forms I’ve printed on card stock, others on copy paper. Some have been laminated, others are not. Personalize them to suit your needs! Print them on your HP printer and get to organizing your year!
