I have fallen in LOVE with The Organic Bloom frames! I spotted these bad-boys some time last year and haven’t been able to look at traditional frames the same ever since.
I love changing up my home decor often, so I can’t bring myself to spend big-bucks on a single piece; so in-turn, I’m kind of a cheapskate. Most of my decor in my home is some how a DIY version of something I saw and loved so…Yep! I have a DIY version of The Organic Bloom frames! I’d love to share with you today how to get a similar look.
Where do you shop for frames?
- Goodwill Dollar Store
- Salvation Army
- Consignment Shops
- Yard Sales
What do you look for?
- CHEAP
- Wooden
- Chunky, thick, funky shaped
- What ever size you like {and is the same size or bigger than the photo to be framed}
- Glass included {but not necessary- you can steal glass from a bland frame}
What’s the process?
- Purchase
- Sand {I use ordinary sheets of sand paper to scrub down the entire thing, but if you have an electric sander- go for it girl! I’m jealous.}
- Wash {Get the stank off old frames, as well as saw dust all removed, so the paint will adhere well.}
- Paint {I use spray paint on a drop cloth or cardboard (1st choice), or acrylic paints on newspaper- depends on if the color I want is in the easier, spray paint, option. You can match a color in the photo to be framed or just go with something fun.} z
- I saw someone add push-pins on the back side of frames, while painting to help ease the mess while drying.
- 2nd Coat if necessary {you’re going to sand it again so you don’t always need to}
- Sand {just edges this time- think rustic look}
- Wash {don’t forget to wash the glass, as well}
- Reassemble {some frames may need to be matted. I use typical mattes — foam board as backing and rear matting or some type of tape or scrapbook corners to let the wall color serve as the matte}
How to display your masterpieces?
Wall-Scape
- Layout frames on the floor for easy shifting to find what works for you.
- Flip them all up-side-down.
- Tape several sheets of wax paper together the length and width of the layout.
- Mark the frame hooks/holders on the paper.
- Tape the paper to the wall you’re putting the frames on and place nails, where the appropriate marks are located.
- Remove paper and add frames!
Mantel Layering
Currently I have our ‘growing’ family across the mantel with the coordinating Willow Tree figures but just play with it. You could even check out Pinterest for inspiration!
Party Decor
These were photo gifts for my parents 50th birthday(s) and 30th Wedding Anniversary as well as the main decor for their party.
This table-scape was created by layering 2 different sized plastic tubs I toted decor to the party in.
Then I threw a table clothe over those to create a fabulous place to display these frames layered behind and among the refreshments at the party.
I encourage you to take the family or a friend along for the hunt. The process can bring you almost as many memories as the already memorable photo the frame will be housing!
