In our family, we LOVE fall!
We love the cooler weather after a scorching Arkansas summer. We love cook outs. We love football {more the social aspect π }. We love the coming holidays. We love dressing up and being silly for Halloween. We {mainly I} love getting to change up my house to make it feel all warm and cozy with different decorations.
I don’t go crazy but I do have a tub of “Fall Decor” that I’ve bought over the years when things go on sale after the season is over. It’s fun to get it down out of the attic every year, remember what goodies I found for a steal the year before, as well as find new ways to use the items I have to spruce up the house.
Here are my ideas for decorating for fall (more than just Halloween):
- Pumpkin full of fall treats:
{pictured above}
The staple in our house for “the glass pumpkin” is CANDY CORN but some times we try and switch it up to pretend we’re healthier than we really are. Other cute options that still look festive are pretzels or pretzel rods, gold fish, or even non-edible items.
- I love inexpensive yet seasonal decor. You can easily change out printables in a basic frame to add fun touches to any room!
- Mini Pumpkins/gourds:
You can find boxes or bags of cheap, fake pumpkins, gourds, and even lemons or cranberries almost anywhere. I love these types of decorations because you can reuse them year after year! I also like color. A lot of time when you see fall decor, it involves a lot of brown or black. Using fruit/veggies to decorate with allows you to use bright colors even in the fall!
Warning: you can use real items like acorns & pine cones but use the right precautions! π
- Throw blankets/pillows:
Many of you may live in an odd state like me {Arkansas} where the weather takes a long time to decide to switch seasons or just jumps into the next one with no warning. Adding fall colored pillows or light weight throws may help make it feel more cozy and fall-like. - Flag Banner:
This banner was made from scrapbook paper in fall colors. I just cut the paper into a gazillion triangles, punched holes in the top corners and strung a long piece of twine through it. The banner is hung on our entertainment center with a couple push pins. - Fake Leaves:
Sprinkling fake leaves can be a very inexpensive way to add fall anywhere in your home.
I simply knotted a long piece(s) of cheap white thread and then “sewed” it through some of the fake fall-colored leaves I had. Some years I have hung these from the ceiling in different rooms, the kids love the idea of the “falling leaves”. Other years I’ve bunched the strands together to create a thicker garland affect. - Toys/movies:
We do this with every holiday- I take any book, movie, puzzle, etc that has to do with that season and store it away in that season’s bin. This makes the kids excited for each season, keeps seasonal books/movies/toys cleaner, in better shape, and more appreciated every year they resurface.
There have already been several great post on the Homemaker’s Challenge this month on fall decor and I bet you have some tricks up your sleeves. I hope these simple ideas have inspired you to celebrate this season and make your home cozy this fall.

I was excited to get the Fall bin down this year. ‘Cause that means in just a lil bit I can get the Christmas/winter one(s) down and THAT means my baby Ellie will be here π
Have fun decorating! I can’t wait to add some more cheap stuff to my bin with some after season sales!
