Sometimes, as a mama, we forget to take care of ourselves. We make lunch for our hubby, kiss him and send him off to work. We prepare a healthy breakfast for the kiddos and give them their vitamins. Dress them and already it is 10AM and you are still in your pjs. Stomach growling because you forgot to eat yourself and your hair feeling a little greasy and you wonder when you last took a shower. Am I right? Ok, maybe that is just me 🙂
Let’s start this year out by making a goal to focus on better care of ourselves! Will you do that with me? Starting this month I am going to start taking better care of myself. I want to be healthy, have more energy and happily provide and care for my family but it all has to start in myself.
Here are some helpful tips and ideas to help you start taking better care of you!
1. Schedule a meeting with Jesus each morning/afternoon
I totally understand sometimes when you are in a season of your life where you are up each night with broken sleep it is HARD to even think of waking early and spending time with Jesus. I GET IT. But, it doesn’t mean we can set aside 15 minutes during naptime or while the kiddos are eating to read the bible and focus on Him for a few minutes.
I have noticed when I purposefully designate an appointment with Him on my calendar I get it done and I feel spiritually refreshed.
2. 15 minutes of physical movement
Did you know when you have a daily exercise routine you have more energy to tackle your day/week? Let’s make it an important part of our rhythm in life to be healthy. I don’t have a gym membership and I live in an apartment but I bought Leslie’s walk at home videos in January and every week I walk 8 miles at home. My 4 year old, Ben, even joins me for a mile or so. Walking is so healthy and good for your overall well being, your heart and also how you feel about yourself.
3. Eat a healthy breakfast
I would always forget to eat breakfast and then wonder why I was starving by the time lunch came along. Beginning of this year I began to either whip up some oatmeal for breakfast or I would make muffins. Did you know a packet of Martha White muffins is 98 cents?? You can make two packets and make 12 muffins. It is enough for my family of 4 and it has become such a staple in our home that we eat now.
4. Take a Vitamin
It is so important, especially as a mom with littles, to take a vitamin. It gives you those nutrients you might be missing out on and it can give you that extra boost for the day. Trust me, don’t skip it.
5. Go out once a week
Being a stay at home mom can sometimes run us down. I love being home with my boys but sometimes I need a little break and that is OK! Once a week (Sunday afternoons) I go to a coffee shop for two hours while the kiddos nap. My hubby stays at home with them and I get to get a cup of coffee, write, read and listen to worship music. Just do it once and watch how much better your week will be.
