By now, many who joined a gym January 1st with the goal of finally getting fit has quit going. Since Valentine’s Day is in February AND it’s National Heart Month, this is a perfect time to start!
35 Minutes to Getting Fit:
What are you doing now? Anything? If you are exercising regularly, are you addressing stretching, weight training, and cardio?
Be honest about where you are . . .
. . . And think about what you hope to do.
Do you want to make time for exercise three times a week? Or perhaps you want to simply be able to walk a flight of stairs without gasping for air? Maybe your goals are more specific — running a 5k or entering a competition of some sort. Or trying something new?
Whatever you want, write it down!
Now that you know what you want, it’s time to formulate a plan. How often are you going to do whatever? Do you need to save up money, buy something or get help?
Write down how to fix everything making it hard to do so you can plan for success!
15:00-20:00 Buy or Borrow
Even walking might require you to buy something if you need new walking shoes. Do you need a gym membership? Personal trainer? Exercise DVD’s? Weights? A baby-sitter?
Get whatever you need to make your goal happen. If you are short on money, get creative and use cans & water bottles for weights and DVD’s from the library.
20:00-25:00. Get accountability
This is both the easiest AND the hardest. It’s free but requires you to put yourself out there. Find someone who will gently nag you about your goals to make sure you are making progress and will gently call you out on your excuses.
Try FB friends (near & far), blog friends, IRL friends, co-workers, or even your husband! Think of a few people & give them a call or shoot them a message. If more than one person agrees, that’s even better.
Finally, it’s time to do it. Start today as much as you are able. Planning is easy, but it takes momentum to get off your keister and DO whatever needs to be done. So get started right now, however small. Go up & down the stairs, do a few jumping jacks or push ups.
30:00-35:00. Hydrate & Prep
Now that your blood is flowing & you feel like a million bucks for moving, drink some water & prep for tomorrow’s workout. Get out shoes & exercise clothes, find the DVD and weights, and write it on your calendar.
You can do this!
It’s not easy trying to fit in exercise, especially when you are busy. But it needs to be a priority, both for your self and the good of your family.
How do you fit exercise into your busy day?
